Journey From Guwahati to New Jalpaiguri (NJP)-Siliguri : It was an amazing experience to visit Gangtok. To reach Gangtok , we need to pass through NJP and Siliguri that is the gateway to North Eastern States of India , Sikkim and Bhutan.

We can reach Siliguri by train, road and air ways. The most convenient way to reach NJP is by train .We were out from our home quite early for the train. We reached NJP by Garib Rath Express. For train journey, it is advisable to reach to NJP in the morning, so that you can reach Gangtok by after noon on the same day.

Journey From New Jalpaiguri (NJP)/Siliguri to Gangtok:- After you reach NJP by train, you can reserve a cab or SUV from the station itself, the fare isaround Rs 1800 ( for Indica , Maruti Alto) to Rs 2500 ( For sumo ). The charges can hike depending on the peak tourism season or not.
From Siliguri station, you can get shared Sumo services for Gangtok . For shared sumo services, they charge you Rs.150 to Rs. 200.
We started our journey from NJP at around 10:30 AM. After 30 minutes journey through Sevok Road, we reached Baag Pool and River Teesta at Sevok. This is the place where we can see the hills are welcoming us and this is the junction point to reach various hill stations like Gangtok , Darjeeling , Kalempong etc.
After an arduous journey we reached our hotel (The Imperial) at Tibet Road of Gangtok. The room which we rented was not so costly, it charged only Rs.900 per room for two person. If you are fortunate enough and have a clear sky that day, the Kanchenjunga may be visible clearly from that place.
Gangtok city itselfhave around ten tourist points. These are known as ten viewpoints. The interesting thing is all of the viewpoints are different in nature from the other.
There are lot of things which you can buy from Gangtok. Here is a list of various places along with some important things you can buy from there.
MG road area is best place to buy fancyand traditional goods. There are lot of shops in and around the area.Traditional attires as well as fancy jewelleries are also available here. In the evening the tourists are seen shopping, having food and enjoying themselves at MG market.

To enjoy the fabulous view of the town and the surrounding valley you can take a ropeway ride (8.00 am – 4.30 pm). The Romtek monastery, the Golden Stupa and the peace sounds of that place is just fantastic. You can also enjoy the paragliding and such other adventurous experiences from your Gangtok trip.

Make a day trip to Tsomgo lake (called Changu by locals), located in the middle of snow-covered mountains. Here, you can ride on a docile yak or pose for photographs next to one. From there, head on to Nathu La pass (open to Indian visitors only on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday), on the Indo-Chinese border to play in snow and wave at Chinese soldiers on the other side.

I really miss the Rs.20 Momos of gangtok from my entire Gangtok trip. I just hope that I can re-visit this place in the near future.
